【講師プロフィール / Profile of Instructor】 PATRICK, Philip(パトリック,フィリップ) 上智大学常勤嘱託講師 国籍 / UK 専門分野 / language testing and assessment 著作 / ◇Japan times 2017- 【受講生へのメッセージ/Message to Students】 This is an advanced level class suitable for students who wish to improve their listening and discussion skills. 【学習内容/Contents】 The class will consist of authentic listening texts on topics to be chosen in consultation with the class. Each class will focus on one listening (mainly Ted Talk presentations) lasting 10-15 minutes. Worksheets will be provided allowing students to focus on key features of the text (vocabulary and grammar) and background information on the issue being discussed. Topics will be of general interest, accessible and current (health, lifestyle, environment, etc) . 【学習方法/Methods】 Classes will begin with a warm up activity designed to share information on the topic and activate known vocabulary. Then the listening text will be played for the first time, with a basic comprehension task to focus listening. The recording will then be played a second time with more detailed questions. There will then be a focus on vocabulary contained within the text, and classes will conclude with an extended discussion of issues raised by the test. Research, or short writing homework will be set. 【学習形態/Mode】 The teacher will employ the communicative approach, establishing context, defining vocabulary and generating discussion opportunities, then giving the students freedom to explore the issues raised with minimal teacher interference. 【受講者に期待する達成レベル/Goal】 The aims of this class are for students to receive extensive listening and discussion opportunities focusing on authentic materials and serious, constructive discussions. Students should emerge from the course better able to follow an extended talk or presentation, and more confident in their ability to think critically about a topic of general interest and take part in a structured discussion of issues g general interest.
