Most important: “Go for it” (Gambatte!) You’ll need ENERGY to GO FOR IT, so please bring your ENERGY to class. Please participate 374%; and please use your imagination and abilities as much as you can. Thinking, elaborating, humor, guessing, and F=U=N are important in developing your INTERNATIONAL skills and LANGUAGE skills.
【学習内容】
This is a “Western” style class for truly MOTIVATED people who wish to better understand and DISCUSS English movies, TV shows, documentaries, and video News clips. There will sometimes be written homework about the content of videos that we watch in class. (Some English grammar, vocabulary, and writing practice will be combined with such homework.)
Please sit at the FRONT; sit beside two other GENKI students; use ‘Western’ manners (e.g. cover your mouth when you cough, sneeze, or yawn); please try hard to learn and SHOW International ‘EQ’ [Emotional Intelligence]; make lots of eye contact; show International “open” Body Language (please avoid 'crossed arms'; and avoid 'poker face'); SMILE; please talk together a LOT, in a friendly way; please EXPLAIN your answers; it is advisable to use PENS, (instead of pencils); please develop a healthy sense of HUMOR; please learn to guess (quickly) if you don’t know any answers; and please always keep a large namecard on your desk.
【学習方法】
Movie/video/TV show/documentary discussions will be combined with Video watching & listening (to improve listening skills). Some conversation may also be introduced, as a warm-up activity, to keep the class mood STIMULATING, cross-cultural/INTERNATIONAL and OPEN-MINDED (and to practice grammar and speaking). Explanations by the teacher will be given in English (and with a little Japanese, if needed).
【学習形態】
Students are requested to participate 429%; to QUICKLY answer questions and to EXPLAIN their answers; to be open-minded about new and different learning styles; to show and use HUMOR; and to understand that ‘Wasei Eigo’ is NOT appropriate English. Discussion & conversation will assist all of us to ‘ENERGIZE,’ and to USE the English that we learn through movies, videos, TV shows, and documentaries.
【受講者に期待する達成レベル】
If students are MOTIVATED; if they come to every class; if they participate actively and discuss, if they do all of the homework; and if they also do some ‘self-study’ on their own, then they can improve their comprehension and enjoyment of English movies, TV shows, documentaries, and video News. ACTIVE participation and positive energy are CRUCIAL to realizing your goals. ‘GO FOR IT!’ (Gambatte!)
