【Contents/学習内容】
This course provides faculty and staff members of universities with essential Japanese skills to establish and maintain good communication with their colleagues and students. The primary aim of this course is to develop the participants’ ability to understand spoken and written Japanese and to use it appropriately in the context of the academic work environment.
【Method/学習方法】
In each class the participants are required to:
・Listen to dialogs and understand the gist of the conversations
・Learn basic strategies, structures, words and phrases to meet the aims of communication
・Practice with oral drills in order to successfully engage in conversations
・Read and understand samples of emails, forms, memos and agendas for meetings
・Learn words and phrases that are frequently used in academic-related documents
・Submit writing assignments (optional)
【Mode/学習形態】
Lectures, listening tasks, reading tasks, oral tasks and activities, quizzes, writing assignments.
Instructions and explanations are given in simple Japanese and/or in English.
【Goal/受講者に期待する達成レベル】
At the end of the course the participants will be able to:
・Understand and engage in conversations with their Japanese colleagues and students
・Read, understand and respond to common emails and other documents written in Japanese
・Understand and complete required forms such as applications, invoices and requests of purchase
