Personal Profile:
Robert Witmer is a Professor of English in the Faculty of Liberal Arts. He served as Chairperson of the faculty for four years, 2013-2017. He is now a Professor Emeritus, while continuing to teach courses in critical thinking and poetry.

Course Description:
The first original haiku in English was written more than one hundred years ago. This course explores topics and questions regarding haiku as an international poetic genre. Course content includes an overview of haiku in English, an examination of current approaches to writing haiku in English, and critical readings of important poets who have adopted the haiku form. Classes will combine lecture and discussion. Students will also have an opportunity to write haiku and haibun of their own. The instructor will read and comment on all student work.
